# How to Winterize a Sea-Doo: Complete Guide
Proper winterization prevents costly damage in Rhode Island's cold climate. Failing to winterize can result in cracked engine blocks ($3,000-$5,000 repair) and fuel system damage.
## When to Winterize
- Mid-October to early November in Rhode Island
- When water temperatures drop below 60°F
- Before the first hard freeze
## Essential Supplies Needed
- Fuel stabilizer (Sea-Doo XPS recommended)
- Marine antifreeze (2-3 gallons)
- Engine fogging oil
- XPS synthetic oil
- Battery tender
- Storage cover
## 10-Step Winterization Process
### Step 1: Final Cleaning
Rinse thoroughly with fresh water, especially after saltwater use.
### Step 2: Fuel System Treatment
Fill tank to 95% and add fuel stabilizer. Run engine 5-10 minutes to circulate.
### Step 3: Engine Fogging
Spray fogging oil into intake while running until white smoke appears.
### Step 4: Oil Change
Change oil and filter to remove contaminants and acids.
### Step 5: Coolant System Antifreeze
**Most critical step!** Flush with fresh water, then add marine antifreeze until it exits exhaust.
### Step 6: Battery Maintenance
Remove battery, clean terminals, store in cool dry place on battery tender.
### Step 7: Lubrication
Grease all moving parts: throttle cable, steering, reverse gate, hood latches.
### Step 8: Exterior Protection
Apply marine wax, clean and condition seats, protect all plastic surfaces.
### Step 9: Storage Preparation
Use breathable waterproof cover, place moisture absorbers inside.
### Step 10: Trailer Maintenance
Grease wheel bearings, check tire pressure, test lights.
